When Tallow First Became Sexy . . .

When SMEAR first began, we weren't riding a trend, we were fighting an education gap. Most people had never heard of using tallow for skin, let alone understood why this ancestral, whole food ingredient works so beautifully with the body's biology.

We spent our early years educating daily when it was still a wild thought to put beef fat on the skin.
We explained that what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it.

Tallow became sexy. It was selling.

There will always be a wave of opportunists who see a chance for quick growth. Sometimes, that can hurt the entire industry. That’s why it’s crucial that those of us in this space for the right reasons, with the knowledge to care for you, fight for quality, expertise and educate on the differences.

Back when we spent all day explaining that beef fat on the skin was beneficial, our biggest hill to hike was bridging the gap between skincare and tallow. What was ancestral and traditional in nature, needed to be reintroduced to the market in mass.

Now, you rarely see someone bat an eye when it comes to tallow.

Why is that? It came from years of educating the skincare space on the benefits.

What we didn’t see coming was the train of businesses to follow who would white label under mass produced skincare made from trimmings fat that was bleached and deodorized, and sold to you for a premium.

Now, the focus shifted. We were no longer fighting an education gap. We were fighting something deeper. We were fighting against our industry being overrun with falsely advertised products made and sold by people who were uneducated about quality. They saw dollar signs and ran with it.
But you don’t deserve trimmings fat.

And to be frank… you never should have been sold that under the guise of luxury skincare.

Your skin is worth more than someone’s margin and opportunity. You deserve the best.

At SMEAR, the BEST is what we do.
